The Mount Baker Council's annual Auction was an in-person event, held in the Fall and was generating good income for Council programs in 2018.  In 2019, the Auction raised even more dollars with the same format, but still around $130, 000 to $150,000, after expenses.

In 2020, the pandemic hit the country and many organizations conducting auctions canceled their fundraisers.  The Mount Baker Council, always up to a challenge, decided to be "Strictly Business" and to change our auction format to online only.  With visionary ideas and inspirational leadership, the Council generated over $241,000 in net income (increase of  $100k) over the 2019 Auction. In 2021, the Council kept the online version, added a VIP in-person event as part of the "live" auction and generated over $363,000 in net income (an increase of $120k over previous year).

Key factors for the success:

  • Matching funds for the Raise the Paddle donations - over $100,000 in matching funds secured before auction.
  • Live Auction packages were sponsored - enabling the Council to keep the full donation of the bidder.
  • The Silent Auction runs from Monday to Saturday of the Live Auction and was refreshed with new items throughout the week (keeping potential bidds coming back to the auction site.)
